Soapy believes that everyone has a right to basic hygiene. Over 3 million people die every year and more than a billion suffer from diseases resulting from lack of hygiene. Many of those lives could be saved by a simple solution - hand washing. Soapy is a self-sustained, cost-effective and accessible to all hygiene station with a 24/7 flow of clean water and smart disinfectant distribution system. The system extracts the humidity in the air, mixes it with soap and provides safe water for washing hands and face. Soapy will target at first government schools and clinics in India where access to clean water and soap is scarce. The team is currently running its first pilot in India, in partnership with one of the country's largest social enterprises. Soapy is a finalist of the Pears Challenge 2017 and the winner of the Novus Demo Day Competition. |

Keheala awarded $600,000 from USAID to scale TB intervention in Kenya The USAID Innovation Ventures (DIV) program has awarded Keheala (Pears Challenge 2014 alumnus) a $600,000 grant to scale its demonstrated tuberculosis (TB) intervention in Kenya. With this funding, Keheala will enroll a diverse patient population across Kenya’s geographic, cultural and socioeconomic spectrums. A four-sided randomized controlled trial (RCT) will compare Keheala’s cost-effectiveness with alternative adherence interventions. The Stage 2 grant was issued following a successful proof-of-concept that showed that patients using the Keheala intervention benefitted from a two-thirds reduction in the unsuccessful treatment outcomes - death, failed treatment and loss to follow up - compared to the standard of care control group. Founded in 2014, Keheala is a mobile health company that improves healthcare access and treatment outcomes by empowering patients with information, motivation and support, all across basic feature phones or smartphones. Keheala addresses the non-medical drivers of disease that exist away from health facilities while providing healthcare agencies with the remote-monitoring capabilities and analytics necessary for combatting epidemics in resource-constrained environments. |
